Morning Backcountry Weather Forecast for 11,000ft

The main closed low is over New Mexico this morning with a smaller low in central Colorado. These two sub-systems are combining to pull in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and fuel some light snowfall over the eastern reaches of our mountains this morning. As these lows merge and move east, we will be left with some light orographic snowfall driven by northwesterly flow. You can expect 2 to 4 inches of additional snowfall today and another 1 to 3 inches overnight for most mountain areas. One or two weak shortwave troughs move over on Friday, adding another inch or few of snow by Saturday morning. A stronger low-pressure trough arrives Saturday night and models are indicating this could be a good snow producer with around 6 to 10 inches of new snow for most mountain areas by Sunday morning.

Ski conditions on the Mineral Belt Trail January 5, 2013

Hello Everyone!

Trail Update: The Mineral Belt Trail has been groomed and is ready to ski from Big Al’s Storage (east 12th street) down to the Dutch Henri Sledding Hill right off of Hwy 24. Conditions are fast and variable, keep an eye out for thin spots. A classic track has not yet been set, but hopefully with the next snow storm there will be enough of a base to set one in.

Update 2/24/12: Sunny today, cold last night, the course will be awesome! Online registration is closed for 44/22/10k. You can still sign up in person tonight (Friday) from 4-9 pm at the CMC Climax Moly Center. Check the registration page for info.

5k fun race registration is on site and will begin around 9:00, before the race starts at 10:30 or so.

Wax clinic tonight too! 6pm @ Cloud City Ski Hut, at the bottom of Dutch Henry hill. See the race info page for details/directions.
